7 Old School Weight Loss Tips That Still Work

Old school weight loss tips

If you think our grandmas didn’t take care of themselves, you are wrong.

They took care of their health and looks as well.

We did a little research and we discovered what our grandmas and the generations before them did to look good in a bathing suit.

Who would think that we can get advice about weight loss from our grannies?

Believe it or not, our grandmas were once young and had similar concerns about their look as you have.

Maybe they weren’t that obsessed with being skinny, but they cared how they looked and what they ate.

Here are some old school weight loss tips from our grandmas:

1. Eat small portions of food

One of the best tips from our grandmas has definitely something to do with portion control.

Namely, many research has shown that we eat much bigger portions than people in the past used to eat.

Previous generations ate much smaller amounts of food which means their intake of calories was smaller and that resulted in a healthy, normal weight.

2. Eat organic ingredients

The majority of people in the past had their own garden or they bought food from local growers.

Your grandma didn’t eat frozen broccoli or canned peaches for sure.

If you can buy food from a market, meet the local growers and buy directly from them, at least during the summer.

Eating seasonal fruit and vegetables is much healthier and it will help you lose weight.

3. Make your meals at home

You may think eating out or food delivery is great, but our grandmas would never do that.

If you want to eat healthily, you should cook at home.

Try to cook at least 5 times a week.

You will cut down on calories and in the meantime, you will save money.

4. Avoid eating in front of the TV

You may be one of those people who can’t watch their favorite show without snacking something.

Unfortunately, eating in front of the TV is a very nasty, unhealthy habit that you should get rid of.

Your grandma didn’t do that, and you shouldn’t either.

Avoid eating your meals in front of the TV or laptop because that way you will decrease the chances of irrational overeating.

5. Find a hobby

If eating at night is something you can’t stop doing, try finding a different activity or hobby that will distract you from eating.

Hobbies such as drawing, reading, writing can be helpful to stop thinking about food and you will manage not to overeat late at night.

Previous generations had an evening entertainment that didn’t include TV or computer and that’s why they didn’t intake calories uncontrollably.

6. Walk as much as possible

Our grannies didn’t have that much access to cars as we do today and they probably had to walk a lot more and walking in particular, is a great activity to burn calories and to stay healthy.

Walk as much as possible, whenever you can.

7. Avoid processed food

One of the biggest reasons for obesity nowadays is the increased consumption of processed food.

Previous generations ate less processed food than we do, they were healthier, and they weren’t obese.
