You don’t need me to tell you that.

Also, you’ve probably tried everything – you’ve been on your diet regime, you’ve been doing your exercise or maybe you’ve tried some weight loss supplements.

But the love handles are still there.

So, let’s see what are the most common reasons why you can’t lose your belly fat even if you are trying hard.

These reasons are often neglected.

5 reasons why you are not losing belly fat even if you are trying:

1. A lack of magnesium

Magnesium is necessary for your body since it enables the normal functioning of your heart and your entire muscle and nervous system.

But, magnesium is also good for weight loss and shaping your body.


If you have more magnesium in your body you will have more energy you could use to exercise and increase the intensity of your workout.

Furthermore, one of the most important things for weight loss are sleeping and reducing stress.

Sleep deprivation increases stress and the levels of cortisol which affect fat storing, especially around the belly.

Magnesium can help you reduce stress and sleep better and all of that has a positive effect on your weight and your health in general.

It helps with insulin resistance too which causes increased fat stored around the belly. (1)

So, if you have enough magnesium, it can help to prevent that.

Moreover, magnesium regulates blood sugar and it enables necessary chemical reactions in your body.

Those are great reasons why you should eat food high in magnesium, such as leafy vegetables, beans, nuts.

2. Sodas

Sodas are definitely one of the drinks you should avoid if you are trying to lose weight.

No matter how much you watch your diet and exercise you won’t be able to lose belly fat if you drink sodas.

This kind of drinks directly affects weight gain around your waist.

Just two glasses of sodas are enough for fats to pile up even 5 times faster.

Sodas have absolutely no benefits for your body – it is just sugar, sugar and sugar.

Sodas are loaded with sugar and they increase your appetite.

So, forget about them and start drinking water,  tea, and freshly squeezed juice.

3. A lack of sleep

Sleep deprivation makes you eat more greasy food during the day since when you are sleep deprived your body excretes ghrelin, a “hunger hormone”.

Also, If you sleep less than 8 hours per night, the levels of cortisol increase and you are more likely to binge on unhealthy food during the day, which means gaining weight.

4. You eat salty foods

If you eat too salty food or you put extra salt in every meal you are less likely to lose belly fat.

Don’t be surprised if you feel bloated after eating a salty meal-too much salt causes moving water from your bloodstream to your skin.

It’s incredible that more than 90% of people exceed the recommended daily salt intake which is only 4 grams and, that makes it more difficult to lose belly fat.

Break this bad habit- don’t put salt in your salad from now on, for example.

5. You intake bad fats

Your body doesn’t react the same to all fats-  high intake of saturated fats increases the accumulation of fat layers.

So, avoid unhealthy snacks and french fries that are high in these bad fats.

On the other hand, unsaturated fats which contain omega-3 fatty acids act anti-inflammatory and they have a positive effect on your body and good shape.

Olive oil, avocado, tuna, salmon, nuts, for example, are high in unsaturated fatty acids.
